Nagorno-Karabakh Deal

Approximately 2,000 troopers and regular folks, likely more, have passed on since September 27, when the most recent round of battling burst out over Nagorno-Karabakh, a little, rocky domain that is legitimately part of Azerbaijan yet has been constrained by Armenians for a very long time.

With the ceasefire agreement signed on November 9, the balances changed in the region for Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Russia.

While Russia was returning militarily to Nagorno-Karabakh for the first time since the collapse of the Soviet Union, Azerbaijan recaptured the territories occupied by Azerbaijan.

The Armenia prime minister, Nikol Pashinyan, commented on the agreement as ‘’This is a huge unsuccess, a huge disaster for us’’ While Armenians protest the deal and get sad, there was a celebration in the Baku streets. Apart from the defeat, Armenia faced with political and economic crisis after the agreement. It seems like these days will be challenging for Armenia.

The biggest winner of the deal is Russia. She returned to the region militarily and established a military presence in Azerbaijan. She also increased her dominance over Armenia.

The other winner is of course Azerbaijan, she recaptured her 7 rayons after the 1994 ceasefire. There are 3 regions which are gained thanks to the agreement that is signed on November 9 without having a gun battle, these are Kelbecer (will be transferred as Azerbaijani land on November 15), Agdam (November 20), Lacin (December 1) except Lachin Corridor which ties Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh.

With the deal, another corridor that links Azerbaijan and the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic will be provided.

One of the most important parts of the consensus is Russia will deploy their military presence on the borderlines over defacto Nagorno Karabakh. In this way, Russia will be on the ground as a peacekeeper and this is obviously so advantageous for her.

The admiration of Turkey as being on the ground militarily is not accepted but she is still on the project of the possession of military observers on the borderline.

At the end of the day, Russia is the most lucrative state thinking the new peacekeeper status on the ground while eliminating the Minsk Group. The opening of the border of Turkey-Armenia by the Turkish administration can become a current issue of the future days.
